For many people these are challenging times - stress, fatigue, anxiety, depression... good news is there are plenty of herbs around that can be of help. In this class we will discuss and sample some of the many possibilities in the world of herbal tea, tincture or powder that can be used safely and effectively to improve mental and emotional well-being.
Three main categories will be addressed: nervine relaxants are herbs that help bring the mind to a sense of calm. Plants such as chamomile or lavender can reduce physical and mental tension, improve sleep and gently reduce perception of stress.
A second category is adaptogens. Plants like ginseng can help build up one's strength and resiliency, making it easier to handle the inevitable stresses of life with a greater sense of balance and ease.
Lastly, mood-uplifters like rose can uplift the mood, bring lightness to heavy feelings and help to heal the emotional heart.
Modern living is not always easy. Nature can provide the relief we need.
Taught by Nick Cavanaugh. Nick is a clinical herbalist at Railyard Apothecary. He works one-on-one with clients who want to improve their health and well-being using herbal medicine.
