Join Maggie and Jessica on an urban weed walk here in the Five Sisters neighborhood of Burlington. We will talk about ecosystems and foraging practices, as well as ID many common plants in our city. Then we will return to the Apothecary and Jessica will lead the group in making an herbal salve with oil infused with locally grown herbs.
Maggie Herskovits finds joy connecting with people and place. Based in Winooski, VT, she is the author of the book, ‘An Urban Field Guide to the Plants, Trees, and Herbs in Your Path’, and zine series, of similar name (Microcosm Publishing). Drawing on her years spent as a gardener in public parks and private spaces, as well as garden educator and horticulture therapist, Maggie offers garden guidance and design to assist folks on their journey of tending their connection to this great world. Jessica Churchill (she/they) is a clinical herbalist and teacher at Railyard Apothecary in Burlington, VT. They came to herbalism by way of the garden and forest, growing many herbs over the years starting in their late teens. She believes that healing and learning with herbs occurs not just by ingesting, but often more powerfully, by communing with herbs in their live state in the garden, meadow and forests. Herbal allies and ancestors have enriched her life and she enjoys sharing that path with others.
