CANCELED - Saturday, July 8, 9am - 1pm
This class has been CANCELED.
Unfolding the power of plants by walking the path of conscious development.
How can you intuitively learn what a plants medicine might be? Goethean science is the
study of nature where the observer cultivates the clarity of their consciousness as an organ
of perception. Developed by the poet and ecstatic, J.W. von Goethe, this participatory
study explores the connection that exists between the individual and the green world.
Through observation, drawing/painting, and discussion we’ll learn to see with fresh ears
and eyes and observe a chosen plant with renewed comprehension. It is also includes and
draws on the scientific realm of measuring and understanding constituents, growth
patterns, history use and anectodotal information to unravel the question of a plants
medicine. This exercise can allow, with time, to deepen perception and understanding of
the plant realm.
This journey begins with the question: “How can I really ‘know’ the medicinal properties
of a plant?” How can I learn to read the language of plants? What connections exist
between the individual and Nature and how can I enhance or build on these connections
to use them in today’s world?
“The human being knows themself only insofar as they knows the world; they perceive the
world only in themself, and themself only in the world. Every new object, clearly seen,
opens up a new organ of perception in us.”
- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Class taught by Julie Mitchell, RH (AHG), Herbalist at Burlington Herb Clinic.
