Schedule of events:
2:00-3:30pm At Risk Native Medicinal Plants & An Update on the Work of United Plant Savers With Emily Ruff
United Plant Savers was founded in Vermont a little over 25 years ago and has become a highly regarded national organization. In the past 25 years, UpS has helped changed the voice of American Herbalism from one of being centered on what plants can do for ‘us’ to a voice of reciprocity that asks, ‘what we can do for the plants in return’. Join Emily Ruff, current Board Member, as she shares information on what to do to help ensure the health of our native medicinal plant populations for generations to come.
From education and awareness of which plants are at risk -including some of our favorite medicinals - to creating both private and public botanical sanctuaries and medicinal trails, to growing your own at risk plants, to using common and abundant medicinal plants as analogs for at risk plants, Emily will share inspiring and practical information that will enable you to be a plant wise and conscious voice for the plants.
3:45-5:00pm- Using Abundant Invasive Plant Species as Medicine with Katherine Elmer
5:00-6:00pm- Raffle drawing, social time, more details to come!
6:15pm-8:30pm- Film Screening with herbal popcorn! Sanctity of Sanctuary, a documentary about Paul Strauss and the UpS sanctuary in Ohio.
United Plant Savers’ mission is to protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come.
Conservation is crucial to ensure the longevity and strength of herbal traditions, and Railyard supports UpS as part of our mission to nurture individual, social, and ecological health.
