This class is for anyone studying herbalism or holistic medicine who has an interest in knowing what happens during a physiologic birth (defined, ‘a normal physiologic labor and birth is one that is powered by the innate human capacity of the woman/birthing person and fetus').
This class will help answer questions that those of us who are curious about birth are dying to know, such as:
Disclaimer: This class will NOT train you how to deliver your own babies or be your friends’ midwife. This class is meant to stimulate your curiosity, so that if there is a midwife or birth worker or mother/parent dying to make themselves known inside of you, they has the safety to ask questions and be curious among peers. I am teaching this class because in my past I have been told that my questions are 'outside the scope of my practice’, and that I shouldn’t ask them. I am teaching this class out of a belief that the honest and safe asking of questions brings forth latent desires and stimulates lifelong students.
Joanna is a midwifery student training with Gentle Landing Midwifery. Herbal lore and wisdom have been guiding principles in her work and life over the past many years, and she has found certain herbal preparations to be extremely helpful during her clients' birthing experiences. You can see more about her philosophy of birth here: Gentle Landing Midwifery (http://www.gentlelanding.com/women-who-help-me.html)
Cost: $10 suggested donation. No one turned away for lack of funds.
This class will help answer questions that those of us who are curious about birth are dying to know, such as:
- If for some reason my sisters/friends labor goes too fast and the midwife doesn’t get there in time, what are the ethical implications of my decisions in response to supporting her labor?
- What do the different stages of labor look like?
- What herbal preparations could I have around for my own birth?
- Can I check my own cervical dilation?
- What are the politics of birth in Vermont?
- Where can I study to learn more about birth?
