Join Dinanne Villani and Jessica Morrison of Trillium Integrative Medicine for an informative lecture on using a systems-based approach to prevent cognitive impairment.

Every three seconds, someone in the world develops Alzheimer’s disease. Although deaths from other major diseases have been decreasing, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are a growing epidemic. Many individuals don’t pursue medical care when they have early signs of memory loss because they've told that nothing can be done. But newer research shows that dementia can be treated with an individualized, multi-factorial approach, and that's where Functional Medicine comes in. Functional Medicine is a systems-based approach to treating complex, chronic illnesses that recognizes that the expression of health and illness in each individual is unique.

We will journey through the science of brain health to help you understand the risk factors for developing cognitive impairment. We will also review some self-care and lifestyle practices, including the use of herbs, supplements, and diet that have been proven to optimize brain health.

Dianne Villani is a family nurse practitioner and certified Functional Medicine practitioner. She is the founder of Trillium Integrative Medicine, Vermont’s only Functional Medicine practice. Dianne named her practice Trillium after the 3 petalled flower to reflect her belief that true wellness requires harmony among body, mind and spirit.

Jessica Morrison is a board-certified Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner at Trillium Integrative Medicine. Previously a researcher in neuroscience at UC Berkeley, she completed a Master’s in Nursing at the University of Vermont and training with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Her clinical focus is in gut health and food as medicine.
