Jason Hirsch spent the summer of 2017 in Burlington and Montpelier doing fieldwork for a Master’s degree in medical anthropology from McGill University.

He has focused on the ways in which herbal medicine might be a potent cultural and political force beyond the clinic walls. He worked closely with members of the Railyard community when he was here, and he is returning now to share the results of a year of research, processing and writing.

The nearly-finished work is entitled: Wildflower Counterpower: Herbal Medicine and the Politics of Plant-Based Embodiment. Jason will share the broad contours of the work with the community and take questions, welcome feedback in advance of the final version, and invite the conversation take off in wholly new directions.

All are welcome, whether participants in the 2017 research or not. Come join us for an evening of warm exchange and open thought.

$5 cover will go to support Railyard’s education programming.

Location: All classes are located at Railyard Apothecary, 270 Battery St., Burlington, VT 05401.  To get to the location go South at the bottom of Battery St. (past Maple St., the Waterfront Diving Center, and the Rambler) into a gravel road area by the actual railyard.  Veer left to cross over into a large parking lot with another set of buildings. Railyard Apothecary is through the last door in the turquoise building at the end.
