Gas, bloating and discomfort are common digestive complaints that can be the result of many factors including the kind of food that we eat, our stress levels and our eating habits. The good news is that there are many herbs which can provide relief. Most often these herbs are aromatic and they can directly reduce spasm and relax the gut. Often they also not only relax the gut, but also have a broader relaxing effect on the the mind and body. Common examples include peppermint, lavender and chamomile.
In this class we will discuss more examples of carminative herbs and digestive nervines and try samples. We'll also talk about the different forms in which you can incorporate them into meal-time including herbal tinctures, herbal teas or even cooking with them directly in food.
Taught by Nick Cavanaugh. Nick is a clinical herbalist at the Burlington Herb Clinic and a staff member at Railyard Apothecary. As a clinical herbalist, he works with clients in-depth on health challenges that they face, such as digestive discomfort, mental or emotional imbalance, or chronic illness. He is a graduate of the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism's 3-year clinical herbalist training program. Learn more about Nick's work at www.nickherbalist.com.
