This event is by donation and hosted by Burlington Permaculture.

The winter season is a time for slowing down, retreating, reflection and introspection. We need to take extra care of our bodies, and what better way to do so than by brewing nourishing, traditional home remedies that are as preventative as they are healing?

We will focus on creating simple herbal teas to address a number of acute or chronic issues of the body, as well as tonify and maintain already strong biological functions, with an emphasis on using locally harvested, wild herbs and fungi.

We will also learn how to make raw apple cider vinegar, and experiment with its many uses for cooking, body care and cleaning. We’ll even learn how to make an immune-boosting tonic with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, decongestant, and circulation-boosting properties - the “fire” cider vinegar infusion.

The workshop will include hands-on experience making vinegar that attendees can take home, and a big “fire cider” batch that will be donated in support of pipeline protesters or Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico - maybe we can decide together! We will also share in a tasting of herbal teas, soups and broths.

Bring a mug for sampling, and a big glass jar with a lid if you’d like to take home your own apple cider vinegar.

This event is open to the public and By Donation, with nobody turned away for lack of funds! Voluntary donations will go toward covering the cost of the ingredients we’ll be using.

Contact Marina (marinarubioherranz@gmail.com) if you want to donate ingredients to the workshop (honey, horseradish, onions, ginger, tumeric, herbs, spices, medicinal mushrooms…).

Instructors:
Marina Rubio is an urban homesteader in Burlington, and Elliot Cluba is a naturalist, herbalist, wellness consultant and primitive skills educator (https://www.herbsandarrows.com/).
